Caryn has her Masters Degree in Music Performance and her Bachelors Degree in Music Education, both with Percussion as her primary field of study. She has been teaching private drum lessons since age 12. In 2011 Caryn gave drum clinics for The Cicely Tyson School for Performing and Fine Arts, The New Jersey Workshop for the Arts, and in February 2012 will be giving her 2nd clinic for the Sam Ash sponsored percussion clinic team, The Drum Summit, lead by “drumming’s global ambassador” Dom Famularo. In August, 2011 she assisted Lionel Hampton’s vibraphone protégé, Jason “Malletman” Taylor with a mallet percussion clinic for Mariah Carey’s Fresh Air Fund Camp in Fishkill, NY. In 2011 Caryn was asked to judge a rudiments and scales student competition for The Long Island Drum and Music School. She has drummed in performance with such world-renowned artists as Bernard Purdie, Richie Cole, William “Spaceman” Patterson and Bill Stone. Caryn also drummed Off-Broadway for productions of Rocky Horror and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. Caryn can be heard rehearsing every weekend with the NJ Workshop for the Arts’ Rockin’ Jazz Band, which she now directs and has been playing the kit with for over a decade. She can be heard playing drums as well as multiple other instruments on her new album, Another Sort of Someone, available at CDBaby.com/CarynFeder2. She hosts a TV show on Cablevision Public Access in Long Island about her original music. Caryn is also an active writer; she arranged “She’s Not There” for percussion ensemble which debuted at The College of New Jersey, and she recently completed a book on Buddy Rich’s life and technique which she is now looking to get published.
